Jillian Weise, of Provincetown, MA, won the $1,000 Poetry Award for her haunting, and titillating poem, "Dating, Like Surgery."
Barbara Barnett, of Dana Point, CA, won for her story, "Beneath," which brings to life the interpersonal relationships in an Olmec human sacrificial rite with great empathy and originality
Craig Rothstein of Woodmere, NY won the $1,000 Nonfiction Award for "My Candied Passing," a surreal memoir about a near-fatal disease.
More than 1,000 entries were sent. Winners and honorable mentions will receive letters and certificates by July. Semifinalists will also will be contacted in the coming weeks. NMW Awards are presented twice annually for works of poetry, fiction and nonfiction. Judges are David Hunter, Marilyn Kallet, Jon Manchip White, Allen Wier and Don Williams, Editor and Publisher.
