Rusty Dolleman of San Francisco, CA, has won the $1,000 New Millennium Writings Fiction Prize. Rusty won for "Sheepdog," a story about the wife and child of a cop and the conflict that arises when they're put in the middle of another couple's tempestuous relationship.
Trish Lindsey Jaggers of Smiths Grove, KY, won the $1,000 New Millennium Writings Poetry Prize. Patricia won for "On the Night They Took Your Life," the account of a mother's visit beneath the stars with the spirit of her son.
Barbara Zimmermann of Yorktown, IN, and Tim Johnson of West Linn, OR, are co-winners of the New Millennium Writings Short-short Fiction Award. They will share the $1,000 first prize. Barbara won for "Southern Discomfort," a succint character study of a fallen "southern belle" applying for a job at McDonald's. Johnson won for "America the Beautiful," about a recovering porn addict's encounter with homeless persons and the oddly uplifting transaction that ensues.
Katharine Goodridge Ingram of Ojai, CA, won the $1,000 New Millennium Writings Nonfiction Prize for "Swimming Under Salvadore," the account of a torrid love affair in Central America from the perspective of a small child whose loyalties are torn when she is rescued from drowning by her mother's lover, a famous sculptor.
