Winners of the New Millennium Writings Awards IX Competition

To be published in the Special Spring & Summer 2000 Issue 


Katy Grabel of Santa Barbara, CA won the $1,000 Fiction Award for "Woman by Chemistry." Anne Collier Rehill, of Lamont, PA won the $1,000 Nonfiction Award for "The Drug Run." There was tie in the $1,000 Poetry Prize between John Canaday of Arlington, MA, who was chosen for his poem, "Song of Myself," and Diane Thiel of South Miami for "Memento Mori in Middle School." The Spring & Summer 2000 issue is due out in mid-May.

Runners-up and semi-finalists will be contacted in coming weeks. Some of them, along with the winning entries, will be showcased with other outstanding writers in our Special Year 2000 Summer Issue of NMW, which contestants should receive in June. That issue also features an interview with prize-winning writer Samuel R. Delany, a memoir of Paul Bowles, a special section—A Y2K Reader—devoted to writings we received on the Year 2000; the fiction of acclaimed prize-winning writer Brian Griffin, illustrations by artist Mark Maxwell, commentary by yours truly, and much more.
